About Michael

Michael is a clinical psychologist and draws upon a variety of evidence-based therapeutic models to help provide treatments unique to the needs of each individual. He is currently undertaking core training in Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), an attachment-based psychodynamic approach and recently completed the MDMA-assisted Therapist Training delivered by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), in collaboration with The Clinical Psychedelic Lab at Monash University. Michael has previously undertaken basic training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Hakomi Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Schema Therapy.

As the therapeutic relationship is the most important ingredient in the effectiveness of psychological treatment, his aim is to understand and respect your experience and to genuinely engage with each client to develop an authentic and compassionate relationship grounded in deep listening.

Michael studied psychology as a mature age student, having previously worked in government, hospitality, as a FIFO miner and a Myotherapist for ten years – where he had an interest in the education and treatment of persistent pain and working with high performance athletes.

Michael’s areas of research in psychology were focused on Men’s Health – exploring men’s expectations of psychological therapy, and Eco-Psychology – utilising Forest Therapy as a complementary intervention for clients with a background of complex trauma.

Michael has a personal interest in transpersonal psychology, including: eco-psychology, Buddhist psychology, non-ordinary states of consciousness and the emerging treatment approaches that explore psychotherapy through these frameworks. Further, he engages in his own regular psychotherapy (ISTDP), psychological supervision (ISTDP), professional development and is an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction that explores the human experience.
