About Me
About Michael
I am a Clinical Psychologist and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and I like to work in a collaborative relationship as opposed to a top down approach. I am qualified in Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) and continue to train, receive supervision and undertake my own therapy using this approach. I believe we co-create our relationships and I aim to help people know themselves more fully and in doing so, become more whole and live life more freely on their terms. I have previously undertaken training in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy (PAP) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Hakomi Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Schema Therapy.
I studied psychology as a mature age student, having previously worked in government, hospitality, as a FIFO miner and a Myotherapist for ten years – where I had an interest in the education and treatment of persistent pain and working with high performance athletes.
My areas of research in psychology were focused on Men’s Health – exploring men’s expectations of psychological therapy, and Eco-Psychology – utilising Forest Therapy as a complementary intervention (alongside psychotherapy) for patients with complex backgrounds and presentations.
I have a personal interest in transpersonal psychology, including: eco-psychology, Buddhist psychology, non-ordinary states of consciousness and the emerging treatment approaches that explore psychotherapy through these frameworks. I also like to read fiction and non-fiction that explores the human experience.
